CHAPTER 8:
Mythril Quest
- A cutscene of Luna received replied message from Noctis brought by Umbra -
Noctis:
“I have received the blessings. Thank you”
Noctis and friends have to investigate ruins near Vesperpool to find out about “mythril”. On the way to Vesperpool, Noctis and friends were blocked by some imperial guards. Apparently after some incident at Lestallum and Fort Vaulerrey, the Niflheim troops are guarding those areas making Noctis and friends more difficult to get near Vesperpool.
Ignis suggest to take a detour via Pallareth Pass to find another route to Vesperpool area. On the way passing Saxham Outpost, a red airship flying above Noctis and friends, Aranea jump off from the airship and stop the Regalia.
Prompto:
“Oh look at that!”
Ignis:
“A red ship”
- Aranea jumps out the from the ship, landed in front of Regalia -

Aranea:
“Hello again pretty boys”
Gladiolus:
“So are you ready for another round?”
Aranea:
“Relax boys, I am not here to fight with you. I have a secret mission to do. My boss ask me to aid you in your journey”
Ignis:
“And your boss is?”
Aranea:
“The loving brother of this prince’s lover”
Noctis:
“Ravus?!”
Aranea:
“He doesn’t seems like the good guy but he does care about his sister and probably his sister’s lover. I just have to make sure you are going to meet his sister”
Prompto:
“Eee… Am I the only who doesn’t understand anything happen here?”
Gladiolus:
“Relax, you are not the only one”
Aranea:
“I have no understanding about his motive. You will need to ask him by yourself. I was just doing wherever the money goes”
Ignis:
“And what do you propose?”
Aranea:
“Didn’t you notice that the imperial troops tightening their guards? Well, my airship can take you anywhere beyond that”
Noctis:
“Great… That’s solve our problem to get to the Vesperpool”
Prompto:
“What about the Regalia? We can’t just leave here”
Ignis:
“We can hide Regalia on the abandoned garage at Saxham Outpost for a while”
Aranea:
“Alrite. That’s settle then. Let’s go. It would look more suspicious if Niflheim troops see me around with you”
With the help of Aranea, Noctis and friends could pass all the imperial troops blockade and arrive at Vesperpool boarding on Aranea’s airship.
Aranea:
“Welcome to my airship! If you feel need to resupply some stock, you could always ask my comrades Biggs and Wedge”
Biggs & Wedge:
“Nice to meet you”
Aranea:
“So, if I may ask, what brings you guys to the Vesperpool?”
Gladiolus:
“We are looking for a certain material well-known to Vesperpool area”
Aranea:
“You mean mythril?”
Prompto:
“You know mythril?”
Aranea:
“Of course, I used to be a demon hunter. You will need to slay a Quezacoatl to get a mythril”
Ignis:
“Where is exactly did you find mythril?”
Aranea:
“Ya know what, I’ll tag along and help you find the mythril. It would be more fun than waiting. You boys will need a ride back after we find the mythril”

With the help of Aranea, Noctis and friends arrives at Steliff Grove where the mythril lies. While exploring the ruins, some conversation occur, Aranea explain about something not right with the empire and how Magitek Trooper develop from a daemon on a lab. Deep inside the ruin, they met with Quetzacoatl, a thunder dragon, who apparently guarding a mythril ore. After defeating Quetzacoatl, Noctis will gain the mythril ore.
After the mythril hunt, Noctis and friends along with Aranea board the ship back to Saxham Outpost to get the Regalia back.
Aranea:
“It is nice to fight along side you boys. Kinda remember my old days as a bounty hunter”
Prompto:
“You don’t look like a bad person. Why did you pick side with the empire?”
Aranea:
“I am not and not planning to. I was doing it just because of the money”
Ignis:
“After all you said to us about the emperor, chancellor and daemons, you still doing their errands?”
Aranea:
“Hmph…. You probably right. Maybe it is time for me to left the empire”
Aranea:
“Well this is the part where we say goodbye. I couldn’t be much longer be seen hanging around with you boys. Besides, the imperial troops were already loosening their guard so you boys can roam freely now. Depends on the situation, next time we meet we might have to fight each other. Until then take care”
Noctis:
“Thanks Aranea and sent my regard to the High Commander Ravus”
Noctis returns to Cape Caem to give the mythril to Cid. Cid said that it will take some time to finally repair the boat. In the meantime, Cid ask Noctis and friends to help a friend in need at Lestallum.
Editor’s Note
This chapter serve as an introduction to Aranea Highwind as our partner. The in-game conversations during the mythril quest hints that the real culprit is Ardyn and where does Aranea stands actually. In this chapter, we found that Aranea is not the bad guy (err girl), she is not part of the Niflheim imperial force, she is merely a mercenary hired by Ravus to help Noctis and Lunafreya since Ravus is being watched by the emperor and Ardyn.

The other change for this chapter is that Gladio never leaves the party for unknown reason. The developer made Gladio left the party for future DLC purpose but it create a total weirdness in the story, Later found out the story behind Gladio's leaving is because he almost cannot withstand Ravus attack before, and therefore he is looking for a new power/weapon with a cost that could be his life. That's is totally stupid and absurd! I mean what happen to Noctis and friends if they found out Gladio didn't make it alive for his new seeking power?! Noctis would keep asking himself "why would he do that?! I never ask him to do that, and now I lost one of my personal guard not because die protecting me, but because his personal ambition to grow stronger while I need him the most". At this point, Gladio should just be by Noctis side and be Noctis's shield.

At this point of writing these revised stories of the game, Episode Gladiolus is already out. I have seen all of it and to be frank, it is quiet disappointing. Where is the found Genji Blade that Gladio had by the time he got back to his friends?! And where is that new power shown to his friend during the game?! Never, right?! So Episode Gladiolus is totally pointless to me. But thanks to this Episode Gladiolus, we had a weird story and minus in overall playing experience because it feels incomplete.
